The Guest: Man is not what he is

“Man is not what he is; man has become what he is not; that’s the root cause of his misery. He has gone astray from his being; he has become too involved in becoming.”

“To become means to become false. To become means to become that which you are not. To be is already the case. Man has not to become anything other than he is, he has to relax into his being and know the truth.” 

The Guest: the truth is given

“The truth is already given, the truth is not somewhere in the future. It is not a goal but the source. You are coming from truth. If you can find the source again you will know what truth is. You are not going towards truth; all going takes you farther and farther away from truth.

“You must have heard the name of Radha. Mythologically she is known to be the most beloved woman of Krishna. He had many lovers; Radha was the suprememost. But historically there has never been any woman by the name of Radha, and in the ancient scriptures her name is not mentioned at all. It is an invention of later mystics, later sages, and it has tremendous significance; it will be good to understand it.” Osho

Commentaar op de songs van Kabir

Deze serie lezingen is gebaseerd op de doordringende, mooie songs van Kabir. Er is maar één ding ter wereld dat vervult, zegt Kabir, en dat is de ontmoeting met jezelf. De ontmoeting met de gast – met je innerlijke wezen, het goddelijke in je – is de weg naar het compleet maken van je leven. Hier brengt Osho ons tot het besef dat natuurlijk zijn, totaal, hier en nu, ondersteund door meditatie, je bij een specifieke ruimte brengt. En in die ruimte is waarheid mogelijk.

Osho betoogt in zijn commentaar op Kabir het volgende:
‘De mens is niet wat hij is; de mens is geworden wat hij niet is; dat is de oorzaak van zijn ellende. Hij is van zijn wezen afgedwaald; hij is te zeer betrokken geraakt bij het worden.’
 
‘Iets worden betekent onwaar worden. Iets worden betekent dat worden wat je niet bent. Je wezen is er al . De mens hoeft niets anders te worden dan hij is, hij moet zich ontspannen in zijn wezen en de waarheid leren kennen.’

Jij bent een ongeopend Boek

‘Ik ben hier niet om je mij te laten begrijpen, ik ben hier om je te helpen jezelf te begrijpen. Je moet je eigen acties, je relaties, je stemmingen nader bekijken; hoe je bent als je alleen bent, hoe je bent als je met mensen samen bent, hoe je je gedraagt, hoe je reageert; of je reacties op het verleden georiënteerde‚ vaste denkpatronen zijn of spontaan en verantwoordelijk. Let op al deze dingen, blijf naar je eigen mind, je hart kijken. Dat moet begrepen worden‚ dat is het boek dat geopend moet worden; jij bent het ongeopende boek.

‘Miljoenen mensen sterven als ongeopende boeken’, hun pagina’s zijn ongesneden. Ga alsjeblieft niet dood als een ongeopend boek. Lees het, ga diep in je wezen. Je draagt alle Veda’s en alle Bijbels en alle Korans in je. Je draagt alles mee wat er met de mensheid is gebeurd of ooit met de mensheid kan gebeuren. Je vertegenwoordigt in een kleine druppel, in een dauwdruppel, alle oceanen, verleden, heden en toekomst. In jouw bescheiden bloei worden alle bloemen uitgedrukt.’

Hoe kun je mij begrijpen?

‘Maak je geen zorgen over wat ik zeg. Hoe kun je dat, in de eerste plaats, begrijpen? Ik spreek vanaf mijn niveau in dezelfde taal die jij gebruikt omdat er geen andere taal is‚ maar ik geef die woorden andere betekenissen‚ ik geef er een andere draai aan. Als jij naar die woorden luistert, luister je overeenkomstig je eigen mind, volgens je eigen conditionering. Hoe kun je mij dan begrijpen? 

‘Je kunt van me houden, maar je kunt me niet begrijpen. Maar als je van me houdt, zal er een groot begrijpen ontstaan. En dat ontstaat niet door mijn woorden te begrijpen, maar door je eigen wezen te verstaan. Hoe dieper het begrijpen van jezelf gaat, des te dieper zul je in mijn woorden doordringen.’

I am here to help you to understand yourself

“I am not here to make you understand me‚ I am here to help you to understand yourself. You have to watch your own actions more closely‚ your relationships‚ your moods; how you are when you are alone‚ how you are when you are with people‚ how you behave‚ how you react; whether your reactions are past-oriented‚ fixed patterns of thought‚ or spontaneous‚ responsible. Watch all these things‚ go on watching your own mind‚ heart. That’s what has to be understood‚ that is the book to be opened; you are the unopened book.

Read – go deep into your being

“And millions of people die as unopened books‚ their pages uncut. Please don’t die as an unopened book. Read – go deep into your being. You are carrying all the Vedas and all the Bibles and all the Korans in you. You are carrying all that has happened to humanity or can ever happen to humanity. You represent in a tiny drop‚ in a dewdrop‚ all the oceans‚ past‚ present and future. In your small flowering will be represented all the flowers.

How can you understand me?…

  “Do not to be worried about what I say. How can you understand it in the first place? I speak from my heights using the same language that you use because there is no other language‚ but I give those words different meanings‚ twists and turns. When you listen to those words you listen according to your own mind‚ according to your own conditioning. How can you understand me? “

By loving a great understanding will arise

“You can love me‚ but you cannot understand me. But if you love me‚ a great understanding will arise. And that will not arise through understanding my words‚ but by understanding your own being. The deeper your understanding is about yourself‚ the deeper will be your penetration into my words.”
